The Resistance Medal
The French Resistance Medal was instituted in London by order of February 9, 1943 General de Gaulle, "Leader of the struggle against France." Its purpose was "to recognize remarkable acts of faith and courage that, in France, the Empire and abroad, have contributed to the strength of the French people against the enemy and their accomplices from 18 June 1940." This is the second and only, set decoration, after the Order of the Liberation, during the war by General de Gaulle. The French Resistance Medal was granted to 65.295 people (including 25,468 posthumously) once belonging to the Free French in the internal resistance. The French Resistance Medal was awarded by decree of the leader of the struggle against France, President of the Provisional Government of the Republic and, from January 1, 1947, the President of the Republic. And it is not assigned since April 1, 1947, except in the Resistance in Indochina, for which the deadline was extended to December 31, 1947 and can still be granted posthumously, under the same conditions, only for who died during the war.
MEDAL OF STRENGTH AND RELEASE ORDER
The order of August 10, 1945, confirmed by the Law of May 26, 1999 and the Decree of 15 November 2005 on the future of the Order of Liberation, dedicated the organic link between the Order and Medal the French Resistance.
It was first under the authority of the national delegate of the National Council of Municipalities "Companion of the Liberation", which guarantees the right of the presidency, putting the secretariat of the National Medal of the Commission.
